Apple has announced iOS 26, a major update to its operating system that brings a new design language called "Liquid Glass". This redesign is inspired by the VisionOS interface and aims to create a more intuitive and dynamic user experience. The new design extends throughout Apple's product lineup, including iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and CarPlay. The versioning change now follows the release year instead of incrementing from the previous.

One of the key features of Liquid Glass is its ability to adapt to the surrounding environment, creating a seamless and transparent interface. This is achieved through the use of machine learning and AI-powered technologies. The new design language also includes a range of customization options, allowing users to personalize their experience.

In addition to the new design, iOS 26 introduces several other features and updates. These include:

  • A simplified Camera app with a more intuitive design
  • An updated Photos app with a redesigned interface and new features
  • A unified layout for the Phone app, making it easier to navigate calls and voicemails
  • New features in the Messages app, including the ability to create polls and add backgrounds to chats
  • Enhanced accessibility features, including improved support for visually impaired users
  • Live translation capabilities in FaceTime, Messages, and Phone apps
  • Maps updates, including the ability to track visited places and learn preferred routes

iOS 26 also introduces a new Games app, which serves as a central hub for gaming experiences on the iPhone. The app provides personalized recommendations and social features, making it easier for users to discover and play games.

The update is available in beta form today for developers, with a public beta expected in July. The final release of iOS 26 will arrive this fall, likely alongside new iPhone models.
